Flour

It gets on your hands and it won't come off

The breadcrumbs came first, and those were fine.

“They're crunchy.”

“They're scratchy.”

Then the water went in, and the flour, and the mixing started, and it stopped being fine.

“It gets on your hands and it won't come off.”

“It smells.”

“I don't like it on my hands.”

“It's like chewing gum.”

Teacher Yubok said that if you keep going it stops sticking. But most of them were done, and being done was allowed, so they washed their hands and the bowls got cleared.

Chaewon kept going.

Kept going until the dough came away clean and left nothing behind on a palm.

Then the others came back to look, and to press a finger into it, and to feel that it was not the same thing they had walked away from.

What kept it going Nobody had to finish it. Teacher Yubok said what would happen if you kept mixing and then let them stop, and one of them found out whether it was true.

Buses

Down a slope on its own

The toy bus went into Bori's hands and stayed there, moving left, then right, then left again.

Teacher Yepark laid a hollow block down in front of it.

The bus went along the block. Then it got rolled back, and Bori laughed at it coming.

They rolled it to each other for a while, and then to the one sitting alongside, and back.

Then that stopped being interesting.

So the blocks went into a slope, and the bus was let go at the top of it, and went down on its own.

That was better.

Toy cars

A fan, and then just breath

One of them was moving a paper car with the wind off a fan, and the car went further or less far depending on how hard the fan went.

Another watched, came over, and blew at the car with a mouth instead.

They set a start line and a finish line, and raced.

Blowing that hard got tiring, so: move in closer, or go back to the fan for the wind.

Balloons

Getting to white

There were balloons blown up big like dinosaur eggs, with paper and glue to go on them.

Tearing the paper and gluing it down, they liked how the glue came off in lumps, and kept squeezing more out instead of spreading it.

Paper went onto the lumps and disappeared under them, and the stickiness got onto their hands, so they went and washed, came back, and spread the glue evenly this time.

The balloons underneath were yellow, so it took a lot of paper before white came through. Some of them said it was too much and went off to something else.

One stayed with it, gluing carefully, saying they wanted to be like the mother dinosaur, and finished an egg.
